Super water repellent finish for cotton fibre / Fluorinated resin

In water repellent finish for cotton fibre, a flurochemical-based water repellent is a primary agent with which an isocianated crosslinker is used as a secondary so that the washing resistance might be improved. Our new development is to produce tremendous washing resistance by adding third component of a special reactive resin (agent comprising of a number of reactive functions in its molecular chains).

Mechanism of durable water repellency


Special reactive resin offers the following structure and advantages to improve the durability of water repellency:

<Structure of special reactive resin>
1. High molecule (copolymer)
2. Main chain structure is similar to that of fluorinated resin
3. Side chains have a number of reactive functions which combine with hydroxy groups on the cellulose fibre

<Formation of super water repellency>
1. Special reactive resin has side chains with a number of reactive groups that combine with hydroxy groups on the cellulose fibre, by which the main chain of reactive resin is attached to cellulose fibre surface
2. The main chain of special reactive resin and fluorinated resin has great affinity each other, which contact each other as sandwiching cellulose fibre. i.e., layers of special reactive resin and fluorinated resin surround cellulose fibre.
3. By such contact between fluorinated resin, cellulose, and special reactive resin, cross-links are formed.
4. Such cross-links strengthen the bond between fluorinated resin and cellulose fibre, which might be resistant to physical strains in laundering


Method of application and Water repellency performance

1. Standard recipe
   PARAGUARD 600W 7 % soln.
   PARARESIN WR-S 5 % soln.
   CATALYST S 3 % soln.
2. Standard process conditions
   Dipping → Nipping → Drying → Curing (170℃ x 2 min.)
3. Test method  
   Water repellency : JIS L-1092 spray method
   Oil repellency : AATCC-188 method
   Laundry : JIS L-0217 method, natural dry
